Working at home offers flexibility and profitability. You can spend more time with your family and save money on gas and car maintenance when you no longer have to drive to the jobsite or office every day. There's no limit as to how much you can earn working from home if you choose a lucrative venture. One way to enhance your home business profits is to sign on with one or more affiliate programs. Affiliate programs are available through thousands of companies online, enabling you to link to their website and earn a commission on the sales you generate. Most affiliate programs operate by the company providing a link that you can add to your site, or even entire product presentations. Some sites provide many resources to help you succeed while others might only provide a link or banner ad. |
Basically you'll place a link from your site to theirs, with the link being coded somehow to identify the visitors you send. When your visitors click through to the affiliate website and make a purchase, you'll receive a commission. Some companies pay by check while others might pay through a payment site such as PayPal or StormPay.
The Best Affiliate Programs
Look for affiliate programs that offer much more than mere links or banners. Some of the highly profitable affiliate websites offer free extensive training on how to maximize your sales and many valuable resources to help you get started. They might include links to multiple products, videos, free e-mail newsletters or e-courses that you can pass along to your visitors, and more. Some affiliates might offer 2- or 3-tier programs where you can refer others to the affiliate program and earn a commission from their sales too.
Look for programs with a solid commission base and high percentages on sales. Do the math. An affiliate program that only pays 5% on $20-$50 products is going to require a whole lot of selling on your part to earn even a small paycheck every month. On the other hand, 20-30% of $100 sales doesn't sound too shabby! Some sites offer as much as 40-50% commissions. These companies understand the lifetime value of a customer and are willing to pay generously just to gain new business.
Enhance Your Existing Business
Even if you already operate a home business selling products or services of your own, you can take advantage of affiliate programs to enhance your income. Choose affiliate products that complement your business. For example, if you sell gift products, you might choose a candle website as an affiliate or a website selling wedding favors or holiday cards. If you sell a professional service such as bookkeeping or transcription, you can meet other needs for your clients through affiliates such as marketing, copywriting, web design, etc.
Enjoy a Recurring Income
Some affiliate programs offer recurring commission payments when customers sign up for monthly or yearly renewals. There are some hosting and marketing companies that offer recurring commissions, and your payments can add up in hurry. Many of the products for online businesses are set up on payment plans by credit cards. These are needful services, and many business owners don't like to change services for no reason. So as long as the affiliate company you choose offers great customer service, you can count on some renewal commissions.
Affiliate Program Woes
A drawback to depending solely on affiliate programs for your income is you'll have to do a lot of marketing to see results. The conversion ratio is typically lower with affiliate programs, although there are some programs that boast a very high conversion ratio. Keep in mind that you'll have to persuade customers to visit the affiliate site, and then hope the presentation is good enough to convert those that are sent. That's why it's extremely important to choose your affiliate programs wisely.
Notice the affiliate company's presentation to its customers, how it closes the sale, etc. Does it offer value to the customers and do a thorough job of explaining features and benefits? Can the affiliate products blend with your current Web business so that your customers will feel as though they are being referred to view products of great value to meet their needs? Your site visitors should never feel that you're trying to push various unrelated products that are in no way related to your business theme.
Another fact about affiliate programs is one program might not last forever. Things change quickly on the Internet. Companies come and go. If you pour all your efforts into one affiliate program and it ceases to exist, then you're out of a business and income. Be choosy when considering an affiliate program, and look for companies that are well established with a solid reputation.
Once you find a few affiliate programs to try, create some well-written pages on your website and place links to your affiliates within your content. This is a good way to quickly transfer visitors from your site to theirs without seeming pushy. Also, be sure to use a link that opens in a new browser window so the visitors can come back to your site after viewing your affiliate's offer.
Make the most of your home business with these affiliate tips. Give your visitors valuable resources they can use while earning a commission when they buy. It's a great way to offer more and earn more!
