Don't Give Up Your Work-at-Home Dream for a Day-Job

Years ago, I discovered that my decision to work from home was a leap of faith, just as it is for any single mom. It's not a "leap of faith" in the sense that I quit my day-job with absolutely no direction or goal in mind. I had a definite goal and a plan to follow, and I'm very satisfied with the results!

Stepping Out of the "Norm"

Consider great business owners of the past. Many of them toiled for years working for someone else. Then one day, they had a brilliant idea that turned into a small (or large) fortune. They took a step out of the "norm" into the world of business ownership. Sure, some have failed, but many have succeeded in the business world and are still going strong today!

My Own Home Business Discovery

I discovered that the skills I needed to work from home were within all along. The same skills I used to bring wealth to others as I worked a 9-to-5 job came to be the skills I now use to make my home web business successful.

You too have talents within that are being used to earn dollars for someone else.

One skill I recognized was the ability to use computers and type really well. So, I learned how to design websites and tested out a couple of website business ideas of my own. Next, I discovered that I could write and give very good explanations of things to others. So, I became an online teacher of web and graphic design. I began helping beginners learn the ropes with written tutorials and e-books. This has been successful for more than seven years now, and profits are increasing each year!

The writing skills I possessed enabled me to write content for others as an addition to my web training business. These skills working together make it possible for me to stay home with my children, set my own schedule, and earn more money than I did at any previous job!

Discover Your Work-at-Home Abilities

Your abilities and skills are probably different than mine. But, you do have abilities and talents within that are being used to help someone else operate their business. Working for someone else is fine for many people. But, if you're a business-minded individual who likes to break out of the "norm" you probably should be operating your own online business.

Here are some helpful tips to get your wheels turning:

1) Create a list of your abilities and skills. What can you do that might be useful to others?

To name a few.... writing, web design, computer programming, typing, data entry, office skills, organizational skills, phone or communication skills, sewing, cooking, drawing, marketing, mechanical skills, financial skills, etc. The list goes on and on!

2) Decide if you can teach these skills to others.

*Think: An e-book for sewing. An e-book for finances. An e-book for cooking tips. An e-book for drawing, etc., etc., etc.

If you develop an informational product such as an e-book, you can sell it over and over again while meeting other people who are interested in your field. You will earn a living doing what you love most.

3) Develop a plan to get your online business in operation.

Don't just dream about it. It's very inexpensive to start a website and to keep it running. You can even find pre-designed websites for sell so your design labor costs will be minimal.

Test the waters before quitting your day-job. But, please do at least try. If you don't try, you'll never fail - but you'll also never succeed at your own home-based business!
