Sugar diabetes in adults, also known as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, is on the rise and poses a serious threat to those who develop the disease. It typically affects adults between the ages of 30 and 40, although not limited to these age groups.

The alarming fact about sugar diabetes is many people who have it are not even aware that they have it, thus, increasing their risks of developing other related health problems as well. That's why it is so important to know the symptoms of sugar diabetes so you can recognize them early on.

Most Common Symptoms of Sugar Diabetes

The following symptoms are common with sugar diabetes patients. If you experience these on a daily or regular basis, see a doctor immediately.

Thirst and Urination

Frequent urination often occurs with sugar diabetes, both day and night. This happens because your body contains excess glucose, which draws water from body tissues. This causes you to feel dehydrated often, and you tend to drink more water or other drinks. You may experience extreme thirst often during the day. This, of course, leads to more frequent urination throughout the day as well.

Weight Gain

Another symptom is overeating and rapid weight gain. The desire for too much food is sometimes a result of losing too much fluid or sugar. The body tries to compensate with cravings of sweets or other foods.

Blurry Vision

If you experience blurred vision, this can occur as a result of tissue being pulled from your eye lenses. Your ability to focus is disabled, but can be restored with proper treatment. In very serious cases of diabetes, blindness or prolonged vision problems can occur.

Infections not Healing Properly

If you experience frequent infections such as skin or yeast infections that are taking longer than usual to heal, this is also a symptom of sugar diabetes. Your body's healing process is hindered when sugar diabetes is present. Women in particular have problems recovering from vaginal and bladder infections.

Swollen or Red Gums

Another symptom of sugar diabetes is swollen, tender or red gums. Gums may appear to be pulling away from the teeth, and the teeth can become loose. Gum disease or infection may be present as well.

Numbness or Tingling

Nerve damage can also occur from excess blood sugar levels in your body. Small blood vessels to your nerves can be damaged and lead to several symptoms such as tingling or numbness in your feet and hands. There also may be a burning sensation in the feet, legs, arms or hands. Sexual dysfunction may also occur in men who are 50 years of age or older if erectile nerves are damaged.

Other symptoms include a continuous feeling of fatigue, loss of appetite and weakness. If you experience the symptoms above, your doctor will give you a blood sugar test to determine if it indeed is sugar diabetes. Normal blood sugar levels are between 65 and 140. High blood sugar levels fall between 250 and 350, while very high levels are over 350.

Knowing the symptoms of sugar diabetes will help you recognize the disease before it's too late. Early diagnosis and treatment are the best ways to prolong your good health.
