If you're on a tight budget and want to spiff up the look and feel of your bedroom, here are some exciting bedroom decorating ideas for the budget-minded. With so many options, you don't have to spend a fortune to achieve a fabulous look for your bedroom. Whether you want a comfortable cottage-style bedroom or a contemporary style, you can spend as little or as much as you want and still get amazing results.

Paint Can Do Wonders

Probably one of the least expensive ways to change the decor of a bedroom is to apply a fresh coat of paint - maybe a lighter or darker color than before. If the room is painted plain white or off-white, try a cream color or a light pastel color such as soft blue, light tan or mauve, or even light green. Light, cool pastels provide a calming, serene atmosphere, which is what you probably want in the room where you'll be resting the most!

If you don't like plain painted walls, then add wallpaper to one wall of the room, or half of the walls with a divider molding. You can also complete a painted room with a wall border pattern to add a splash of color.

Be sure to look for matching accessory pillows so you can layer them on your bed for decoration.

Bedroom Furniture: Tables, Chairs, and Rugs

Other inexpensive items to help improve bedroom decor include night stands, rocking chairs or antique chairs, dressers, hope chests, and oriental rugs. You can find these items at yard sales as well, or buy them on clearance without spending a lot. They really add to the room without having to make big changes. Be sure these will match your bedding, curtains, and wall colors. Also, look for matching throws for various seasons of the year. For night tables, decorate with silk flowers, photos, doilies, and other items.

Accent your bedroom walls with beautiful paintings, mirrors, shelves, or hanging flowers. Choose paintings to match the overall theme and colors of your room. If you want a serene feeling throughout, add paintings with soothing scenery of country sides, mountains, streams, quaint villages, etc. If you prefer modern art, look for colors that are calming to the soul.

Select window treatments to match your colors and/or bedding. These can be neutral-colored curtains or drapes to match several themes. Or, the curtains might feature the same colors and patterns as your bedding. Window dressings should offer plenty of privacy for the bedroom with the option to open when needed.
