Let's face it. We spend about a third of our lives sleeping. And where do we sleep - the bedroom! But too often, little attention is given to bedroom designs. The bedroom should be decorated in such a way to create a peaceful setting as we retire, but should be decorative enough so we can welcome guests for a tour when the opportunity arises.

Think for a moment. Does your bedroom provide the comfort you need to settle down for a restful night? Is your personality expressed through your bedroom decor? Do you want a bedroom design that’s far from the ordinary? Let's explore some amazing bedroom designs to find the right one for you.

Serene Green

Green walls for bedroom decor welcome complementary colors of tan, brown, black, and even brighter colors such as pink, red, or yellow. With light green walls, you can easily add dark accented bedroom furniture and wall decor pieces with natural-colored bedding linens. Use wooden or glass night stands, decorative mirrors, light-colored lamps, and large windows to bring out the blend of colors. For carpet, choose neutral tan or dark brown so you can change your bedroom look and feel occasionally without replacing the carpet. Use rugs to accent hardwood flooring or neutral carpet.

Warm It Up with a Fireplace

You can have the "cozy, warm cabin" feeling right in your very own bedroom by simply adding a fireplace. The fireplace might use gas logs or real wood. It can be made of stone, simulated rocks, or metals - whatever suits your style. A fireplace can make your bedroom the ultimate retreat for peace and quiet on a cold winter's night! Add some bedroom furniture pieces such as a comfortable sitting chair with a lamp for reading. Use rugs in front of the fireplace for that extra effect! Fireplaces also look great with cherry wood bedroom furniture.

White and Cream Calmness

In the white and cream bedroom design, there's always a feeling of cleanness and peacefulness. To achieve this decor, choose long white sheers for window treatments, cream-colored bedding and pillows, a white or cream colored rug, light hardwoods for bedroom flooring or a very light colored carpet. Use other light colored items such as a beige or light metal television and stand, shelves, paintings, dressers, night stands, and chairs. Use white lights to illuminate the room and softer lights for nighttime relaxation.

Dark Busyness

Some bedrooms look great with dark, bold colors such as black, burgundy, or dark blue or green. These colors are popular with young singles (especially men), and are also popular in college dorms and small apartments. For this bedroom design, create a "busy" atmosphere with a book shelf (made of black or dark wood), a chest, a night stand, dark colored curtains, and an entertainment center to match. Add a lamp or two and a couple of stools or modern style chairs to complete this look.

Exquisite Bedroom Design

For the exquisite bedroom decor, choose elegant bedroom furniture and decorative curtains, bedding, and wall decor items. Also, create an elegant look and feel with fancy lighting and lamps. Look for antique dressers and tables as well as colorful rugs to match the room colors. Paint the walls a light gold color and use long flowing drapes for the windows, made of satin or polyester with fancy hooks and ropes to give a sense of royalty.

A "Cool Pad"

For a cool 60s or 70s bedroom design, create a "psychedelic" look with bizarre, bright colors such as hot pink, bright red, or orange. Use wall fabrics to hang behind the bed and paint the room in bright, bold colors with at least one polka-dotted wall! Keep the bedroom furniture to a minimum, but be sure the few items you do have are bright colored, small, and simple. Shop around for unusual bedding to offset the room and create a groovy style that all your friends will admire. And if they don't….. so what?

Bedroom Round-Up

If you want a really unique look for your bedroom, choose a round-shaped bed and design your room with a rounded picture window if you’re remodeling or building a new home. Then use round lamps, tables, and wall hangings to continue the pattern. Contrast it with a square or rectangular rug, square pillows, and hexagon shaped plant stands for a creative touch.

These are just a few bedroom designs to consider. Whatever style or decor you prefer, be sure to create a room that will meet your needs and help you to relax and unwind after a busy day.
